This is a list of countries by employment rate, this being the proportion of employed adults in the working age. The definition of "working age" varies: Many sources, including the OECD, use 15–64 years old, but the Office for National Statistics of the United Kingdom uses 16–64 years old and EUROSTAT uses 20–64 years old. The employment rate for a given age group is measured as the number of employed people of a given age as a percentage of the total number of people in that same age group. Employed people are defined as those aged 15 and over who report that they have worked in gainful employment for at least one hour in the previous week In 2011, the annual rate of basic pay of a GS-13, step 1, employee in the Washington, DC, locality pay area is $89,033. The employee's payroll calendar has 26 pay dates. The employee's hourly rate of basic pay is $42.66 ($89,033/2,087 hours). The employee's biweekly rate of basic pay is $3,412.80 ($42.66 x 80 hours). If they work 40 hours per week for 52 weeks, they will work 2,080 hours, which makes their labor cost $31,200 (pre-tax) per year. But if that employee is absent from work for 15 days that year (taking paid time off), they will actually work closer to 1,960 hours per year — making their actual hourly rate closer to $16.
